Pregnant Sun

by Fehinti Ojelabi

Pregnant Sun
Why bring so much heat?
After the rain gave us African beats
During Midday, your glow prevails
As birds sing melodiously
As the azure sky is filled with trembling clouds
As the grass is filled with fresh dew
You become relentless and filled with anger
As you labor bringing forth your child
Finally you calm down
As you look straight into your daughters eyes.
