Autumn

by Jackie Darnbrough

With  creeping  shrouds

of dampening  mists

she touches fading trees

in a hazy undulation,

waiting for a lazy morning sun

to warm  the land again

Feel the crunch of fallen fruit

see rusted leaves carpeting

a grey unforgiving path,

a temporary reprieve

from  impending  winter drizzle

Summer strains to hold on

to her fecund fields

of dying green.

A slow surrender
