Every now and then
Torturous frost
The sun
Running away, hiding the face
Temperature
Below freezing level
Fireplace
The only solace
Initially
Fuelled with wood
Later with coal
And then the eternal inventor
Man
Created the electric heater
Clean, decent
And a step forward
Later the gas heater
Then radiators
Covered the walls
My companion
The fireplace
Changed with time
Firewood
Coal
Gas
Became irrelevant
Obsolete
The new generation
Unaware
Of the grandeur of fireplace
A gradual metamorphosis
The oddities go out
Like me
